Fire claims local business; incident under investigation

TIFTON —

A local business is a total loss after it caught on fire early Tuesday morning.

Fire Chief Mike Coleman with the Tifton-Tift County Fire Department said at 2:14 a.m., a call came in that there was a fire at American Tax Service, located at 1160 S. Main Street. He said someone called the incident in from a cell phone.

The building is a total loss, including its contents, said Coleman. He said no one was inside at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined yet, and is still under investigation.

Coleman said the state arson investigator would be examining the scene sometime Tuesday.
