Arrests continue in gambling sweep

TIFTON — Local arrests continue for commercial gambling with another individual appearing in Thursday's reports from the Tift County Sheriff's Office.

Chetnabahen Narendra Amin, 43, of Tifton was charged Wednesday with two counts of commercial gambling.

This arrest adds to the list of four other recent arrests: Charles Alton Benefield, 37, of Tifton was charged Wednesday with one count of commercial gambling; Gloria Ann Knight, 40, of Omega was charged Monday with three counts of commercial gambling; Marie Webb Mobley, 58, of Tifton was charged Monday with one count of commercial gambling; and Jessica Guadalupe Garcia, 22, of Tifton was charged Monday with one count of commercial gambling.

The Tifton Gazette previously reported that several local convenience stores were raided by law enforcement July 7, which resulted in five arrests for felony counts of commercial gambling, as well as other related gambling charges.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the GBI’s Commercial Gambling Unit, along with the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force, the TCSO and in cooperation with the Georgia Lottery Corporation, executed 18 search warrants in the Tift County area for violations of Georgia’s commercial gambling laws. Search warrants were served at 13 businesses, three residences, one storage facility and one office location.
