Tifton youth receives Eagle Scout award

TIFTON — Christopher M. Bennett, 15, received his Eagle Scout award in a Court of Honor ceremony April 26  at American Legion Post 21 in Tifton.

A member of Troop 321, sponsored by American Legion Post 21, Bennett began his Scouting career in 2005 with Cub Scout Pack 366, which later became Pack 321, where he earned his Arrow of Light. He earned 30 merit badges. For his Eagle Scout service project he planned and built a playground set for the youth at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Alapaha.

He has served his troop in leadership capacities, including patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, chaplain’s assistant, historian and librarian. Chris’ Scouting adventure included camps at Camp Osborne in Sylvester, Camp Rainey Mountain in Clayton, Camp Patten in Lakeland,  and aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriot’s Point Naval and Maritime Museum in Charleston, S.C.;  In addition he has attended camp at Kolomoki Mounds State Park  in Blakely. He has participated in white water adventure trips to the Nantahala River in North Carolina and Ocoee River in Tennessee. Bennett has completed national youth leadership training.

He is a freshman at Grace Baptist Christian School in Tifton.

He is the son of Michael and Dawn Bennett and brother of Sarah Bennett of Enigma, and is the grandson of Ronald and Ruth Bennett, of Nashville, and Walt and Shirley Durden of Alapaha.
