BOE to hold public hearings on mill increase

TIFTON — The Tift County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 3 mills, bringing the millage rate to 17.964 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with homestead and with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $114 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $120.

The Board will be holding several public hearings that are open to all concerned citizens. The hearings will be held at the Board of Education office at 207 N. Ridge Ave. in Tifton. Dates and times for these hearings are July 10 at noon, July 10 at 6 p.m. and July 17 at noon.
