Tift 14th in Director’s Cup

TIFTON — With the completion of baseball season, Tift County High, as well as other area schools, now know their rank. Not just in baseball, but in all sports. The Georgia Athletic Directors Association released the Regions Director's Cup standings and local numbers are good.

The Blue Devils finished 20th overall in Class AAAAAA, the top ranked school outside of metro Atlanta. They had a grand total of 643 points; Walton was first with 1,228.5. Despite the state championship in boys basketball, it was the Lady Devils who contributed the bulk of the points with 408. That was good for 14th statewide.

Tift was the top school in Region 1. Lowndes was the nearest competitor, trailing by 126 points. They were also 2nd in girls' standings as the Lady Devils walloped them by 180 points.

Irwin County also won a region championship in the Cup. The Indians were tops in boys and girls athletics, scoring 505 overall. The boys provided most of the points with 336. Turner County was the No. 2 team out of Region 2-A.

In Class AA, Thomasville's 748 was good for honors out of Region 1. Cook was No. 2 with 558, Berrien was 3rd with 513 and Fitzgerald was 4th at 451.5

Worth County finished 4th in 1-AAAA, totaling 239 points.
