A Ty Ty man was arrested Monday for arson after allegedly setting some clothes on fire.
Lt. Col. Bobby Brannen with the Tift County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Mark Guess responded to an address in Ty Ty where he met with the female complainant who told him that she had a verbal dispute with 33-year-old Thomas Jeffery Lott, who also lived at the residence.
The complainant reported that Lott entered the residence after telling her he was going to pack and leave. She told Guess she entered the residence a short time later, smelled smoke and discovered Lott had set some clothes on fire on a bed in the residence. Lott was not on the scene when deputies arrived.
Brannen said according to Guess' report, the Tifton-Tift County Fire Department also responded to assess the scene and indicated they would notify the Fire Marshall’s Office. Damage was estimated by the complainant to be approximately $100 and approximately $150 to the mattress.
Warrants were obtained for Lott on charges of criminal damage to property in the first degree and arson in the third degree. Brannen said Lott was arrested on these charges Monday and is currently being held in the Tift County Jail. Bond has not been set.
Investigator Cliff Henderson was assigned this investigation.
