Gunshot victim’s story changes, wound self-inflicted

TIFTON —

A recent aggravated assault incident reported to law enforcement remains an active ongoing investigation.

The Tifton Gazette previously reported on this incident that Deputy Andrew Gray reported Monday night around 10 p.m. that he responded to Dorminey Street in reference to a gunshot victim, according to an incident report filed at the Tift County Sheriff's Office. Upon arrival, a female complainant said two unknown black males approached her at her residence, located in the 2300 block of Dorminey Street, and one of them had a gunshot wound to his leg.

She reported the victim requested to go to the hospital, but another subject picked him up and drove off before deputies arrived on the scene. An investigator was called, and the scene was turned over to him.

According to Lt. Col. Bobby Brannen with the TCSO, the victim in the case has told conflicting stories about what happened. The night of the incident, he told deputies that someone shot him. The next day during an interview with an investigator, the victim indicated he accidentally shot himself.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the TCSO Criminal Investigation Division at 229-388-6021. Sgt. Jason Barber has been assigned this case.
