Rants and Raves for December 8

Why does the city street signs not match the P.O. address system? Such as N. Central, S. Central, E. 2nd, W. 2nd. Do they not know how the city is divided? Central is the dividing point for East and West, RR track at Central is North and South dividing point. North, South, East and West are designated in our address. Sure would be nice if street signs reflected this.

Matt Towery describes the Iraq war as an effort led by a Republican president to end aggression by Saddam Hussein. Really? I don't recall Saddam attacking the U.S. The reason given by the unnamed Republican president at the time was that he was taking the action because of the threat of weapons of mass destruction held by Saddam. How did that work out? Let's not rewrite history, Mr. Towery.

"Cotton on the road side, Cotton in the ditch, we all picked cotton but we never got rich....." It's not litter on the side of the road. It is the beautiful sign of fall is here and the winter to come. I guess it's a southern thing.

To the opinionista opposista who believes that the current HPC, P&Z and DDA boards have been business friendly should look at a local bank being hounded by citizens and HPC members who own no property downtown or any investment in Tifton business period. These board members were approved by unanimous votes. Is this specific enough for you? By the way, the 44 percent tax increase was passed by a different 3-to-2 group. There have been a lot more unanimous votes than 3-to-2. And the mayor in every city leads meetings. He's doing his job.

Is it just me, or does it seem this new crop of doctors we have around here spend more time staring at a computer screen instead of the patient sitting across the room? I also noticed a few nights ago that it appeared the computer desk at the ER always was full of personnel, again, staring at computer screens. I just wonder who's being served anymore?

I would like to say thank you to Julie Smith. I think we have finally gotten someone who is honest and that cares about doing the right thing on our City Council.
