Edward Dennis “Ed” Sheppard Sr.

TY TY — Edward Dennis “Ed” Sheppard Sr., 76, of Ty Ty, formerly of Tampa, Fla., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty with the Rev. Jim Duggan and the Rev. Chuck Sheppard officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight, at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Mr. Sheppard’s grandsons and son-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

Born Feb. 5, 1937, in Tampa, Fla., to the late Sydney Glen Sheppard and Dorothy Lovie Knight Sheppard, Mr. Sheppard was also preceded in death by his three infant children who died shortly after birth.

Mr. Sheppard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired insurance agent and a lithograph pressman at Continental Can Company. Mr. Sheppard also was a co-owner of the Red Barn Feed and Seed in Ty Ty, a farmer and he drove the school bus. He enjoyed collecting antiques and buying and selling real estate. Mr. Sheppard had lived in Ty Ty for 40 years where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ty Ty, working with the youth there. He enjoyed working in his yard, traveling, fishing and training and racing thoroughbred horses. Mr. Sheppard, an unselfish man who loved being with his wife and family, was always doing things for his family as well for others.  He was known for his good sense of humor, his love for people and as a man who never met a stranger.  

Mr. Sheppard is survived by his wife, Winnie Williams Sheppard of Ty Ty; his children, Sandra and Bob Mutterspaugh of Ty Ty, Edward Dennis Sheppard Jr. of Tifton and Susan Denise Williams of Ty Ty; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Mildred Sheppard of Blairsville and Wallace and Mary Sheppard of Tampa, Fla.; his sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia and Tom Schmidtetter of Anna Maria, Fla.; his grandchildren, Brandon and Debbi Hanks, Haley and S.Sgt. Kevin Vonire (USMC), Ashley Hanks, Justin Sheppard, Heather Sheppard, Austin Williams, and Brent Williams; his great-grandson, Seth Williams; a special family friend, Cheryl Lancaster of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
