Fitzgerald murder victim identified

TIFTON — A Fitzgerald woman was found dead Sunday morning at Uptown Motel on South Grant Street with several stab wounds.

Fitzgerald Police Chief William Smallwood said 911 received a call shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday concerning the incident. Officers, along with Emergency Medical Services, responded to the motel, where they found a deceased white female in Room 126.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Samantha Wheeles of Fitzgerald. Smallwood said a worker at the motel found her body. Wheeles had a total of 14 puncture wounds, two of them at her neck and the rest on her body. He noted one of the wounds to her neck was the cause of death.

Smallwood said the case is still under investigation, and they have no suspects or persons of interest as of Monday afternoon.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Fitzgerald Police Department at 426-5000.
