Ben McMahan

OCILLA —  Ben McMahan, 28, of Ocilla died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Ocilla United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jay Roberson and the Rev. Craig Snyder officiating. Interment will follow at Frank Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Ben was born Aug. 10, 1985 in Adel to Dr. Howard C. and Janet Miller McMahan. He spent most of his life in Irwin County. He was a 2004 graduate of Irwin County High School where he played baseball and golf and wrestled. He attended Valdosta State University, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Georgia Southern University.

Ben was a true outdoorsman and hunting was a particular passion. He enjoyed hunting deer, duck and quail and bass fishing, as well as riding dirt roads throughout the area. He farmed with his brother-in-law and enjoyed taxidermy. Ben took many courses ranging from engineering to real estate. He worked in information technology for Irwin Family Medicine and was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church. One of his legacies will be that he lived life to the fullest, squeezing every moment of enjoyment out of life.

Ben is survived by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Howard C. McMahan; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Angie McMahan Young and Bridget McMahan Walters and her husband, Wes; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard C. “Hank” McMahan Jr. and his wife, Lindsey, all of Ocilla; nieces and nephews, Madison Young, Preslee Walters, Darbee Young, Wesley “Bubba” Walters, Howard C. “Cleve” McMahan III and Cash McMahan; the love of his life, Jodi Maloy; his faithful companion, Delta, his chocolate retriever; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. McMahan of Grovetown; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller of Harlem.

The family suggests those desiring to send memorials may send them to the Ben McMahan Memorial Account to be used to buy water filters for cancer patients. Donations may be sent to this account through Ocilla United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 61, Ocilla, GA 31774, noting on the donations “Ben McMahan Memorial Account.”
