Ms. Sumner was born Aug. 30, 1944. She was raised in Waterloo, graduating in 1963 from Irwin County High School as the salutatorian. She also served as class president. Ms. Sumner was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church. She was a bookkeeper by trade, retiring in 2010. Her most important title, however, was mother. She and Loraine were inseparable. They enjoyed traveling to Disney World, the beach and attending concerts together.

Ms. Sumner was a die-hard Georgia Bulldog fan and the two of them went to as many games as possible. She and Loraine shared much more than a loving mother-daughter bond as anyone who knew them can attest. There was not one day of Loraine’s life that they did not talk to each other. Ms. Sumner loved to shop, gardening and working in her yards. She especially loved her cat, “Nash.”

Ms. Sumner is survived by her daughter, Dr. Loraine Sumner, and her sister, Ann Jackson. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Martha Anna Carr McCurdy and Edward McCurdy.

Flowers will be accepted. You may also donate in her honor to The Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation, 1497 Kennedy Road, Tifton, GA 31794; to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284; or Hospice of Tift Area, P.O. Box 747, Tifton, GA 31793.
