Stallions stomp SGSC

TIFTON — The ABAC Stallions made it two in a row over South Georgia State College Friday afternoon. They took a pair of diamond wins in a doubleheader, 6-0 and 6-4.

Garrett Brown recorded one win, pitching a complete game four-hitter and only issuing one walk.

His offense scored a run in the 1st on a Christian Miller groundout that scored Jacob Baxter. Two more came in the 4th after Lane Dixon singled home a leadoff triple by A.J. Benefield. Dixon moved himself into scoring position on a steal and would score with two out off Trevor Moncrief's base hit.

ABAC picked up some insurance in the 6th. Benefield scored on Moncrief's single, Will Bagwell came in on a wild pitch and Moncrief crossed the plate on a Ricky Carpenter RBI single.

The Stallions recorded eight hits, with only Benefield's triple going for extra bases. He scored two runs in the contest. Trevor Moncrief had a pair of RBIs on two hits, joining Lane Dixon as the only two on the team with multi-hit nights.

Matt Shurley had a no decision in the other contest. He gave up three earned over five innings, but ABAC only had two runs and would not permanently go ahead until a four-run 6th.

The big inning started with a walk to Christian Miller. Two singles later, the bases were loaded for Luke Miller. He singled to drive in two. A walk to Adam Boan loaded them up again. Trevor Moncrief hit a ball to second, but an error not only put him aboard safely, it enabled two more runs to score.

ABAC's previous two runs came in the 1st off a Lane Dixon double.

Shurley's replacement, Ethan Thornton, pitched the last two innings and picked up the win.

The Stallions are scheduled to host West Georgia Tech this afternoon at 2.
