Ruth Temme Brooks Paulk

OCILLA — Ruth Temme Brooks Paulk, 87, of Ocilla, formerly of Tifton, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Palemon Gaskins Nursing Home in Ocilla. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Oakridge Cemetery.

Her dear friend and caregiver, Monica Causey, will give the eulogy. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Paulk was born March 22, 1927 in Birmingham, Ala. to the late George and Laura Severn Temme and Janie Humphreys. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Theodore (Ted) Roosevelt Brooks, who died in 1974; her second husband, Robert M. (Bob) Paulk, who died in 2006; a daughter, Nancy Ruth Brooks Russo Dycus; a grandson, Chris Russo; a granddaughter, Laura Russo Williams; and twin baby boys, Brent and Bryan Brooks.

Mrs. Paulk was a homemaker and a professional musician. Music was an integral part of her life. In her early years, she played the accordion with the Ted Brooks Band in Birmingham, Ala., where she and her husband also owned and operated a music store for many years. Mrs. Paulk was an avid collector. She loved politics, watching Fox News and Bill O’Reilly and she enjoyed collecting dolls, teddy bears and Hummel’s (German figurines). She was a member of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Paulk is survived by a son, Bruce Theodore Brooks of Tyler, Texas; a daughter, Cynthia Freeman of Birmingham, Ala.; a grandson, Britton Theodore Brooks; a granddaughter, Monica Freeman; several great-grandchildren; and special friends, Monica and Billy Wayne Causey of Ocilla and Leslie Folsom of Tifton.
