Eva Laverne Pate

BRUNSWICK — Eva Laverne Pate, 82, a resident of Brunswick, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at Azaria Personal Care Home in Lawrenceville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. James E. Crandall officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Park Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be, Vernon Willis, Paten Willis, Andrew Pate, Court Lukens, Hugh Leggett and Neal Strickland. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.

Known as Tippy to those who loved her, Mrs. Pate was a lifelong resident of Brunswick. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Needom W. Faulk. Mrs. Pate graduated from Glynn Academy in 1949 and married W. Harold Pate, her husband of 59 years. She was employed by Brunswick Pulp and Paper Company and later by SunTrust Bank where she became the first female branch manager and vice president. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Brunswick and the Glynn Academy Class of 49ers.

Mrs. Pate was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Always devoted and proud of her children and grandchildren, she rarely missed an awards ceremony, dance recital or special occasion. She was incredibly selfless and compassionate and spent most of her retirement giving to family, friends and others in need. She had a larger than life personality that was captivating to everyone who knew her and a witty sense of humor that could send a crowd of people into uproarious laughter.

She loved ceramics, scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.

Mrs. Pate was preceded in death by her husband, W. Harold Pate; brother, Latham Webb Faulk; and parents, Ednah and Needom Faulk.

Survivors include her daughter, Andrea Pate Willis of Tifton; son, Hal Pate of Lawrenceville; four grandchildren, Hallie Willis Lukens of Atlanta, Paten Lane Willis of Cumming, Elyse Marie Pate of Frankfurt, Germany and Andrew William Pate of Baton Rouge, La.; and devoted caregiver, Stela Pertea of Lawrenceville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or the Knitting Ministry at First Baptist Church, 708 Mansfield Street, Brunswick, GA 31520.
