Evelyn Lovett Childers

SPARKS — Evelyn Lovett Childers, 92, of Sparks passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Cook Senior Living Center in Adel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Dwight Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Childers was born May 27, 1921 in Lenox to the late Richard Daniel Dove and Clyde Brannon Rentz Dove. She was a lifelong resident of Cook County and was a member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was the owner of Southland Restaurant and the owner of Lovett’s Pecans where she was a buyer of pecans for many years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Barney Lovett; her second husband, Claude Childers; and two brothers, Hayward Dove and Aaron Dove.

Mrs. Childers is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Robert Stevens of Richmond, Va., Carolyn and Bill Johnke of Dallas, Texas, and Jerri and Stan Griffin of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Amy and Bill Tompkins, Katie and Erik Figuera, all of Tampa, Fla., Brittany and Bryan Davis of Harrisburg, Va., Brannon and Lisa Johnke of Dallas, Texas, Eston S. Griffin III, Rebekah and Mitch Summerell, Merridth and Stefan Mohr and David Griffin, all of Atlanta; and 12 great-grandchildren.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
