‘Enos’ joins Dancing Stars of South Ga.

TIFTON — Sonny Shroyer, “Enos” of Dukes of Hazzard fame, is coming to Tifton representing Valdosta in the second annual "Dancing Stars of South Georgia" at 6:30 p.m. at the UGA Tifton Campus Conference Center. Online ticket sales are now closed. Call 388-8219 for ticket availability.

Tables for $1,000 donation or seats for a donation of $125 remain for those who want to see and vote for their favorite local “celebrities” from Tifton, Albany and Valdosta. Votes will help determine the People’s Choice Award and may be made now at dancingstarsofsouthgeorgia.com.

The event is a key fundraiser for the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, and is one of seven held around the state each spring. All funds raised go toward supporting statewide services and vital research toward a cure in the fight against Alzheimer's disease.

At press time, Tifton’s Ray Cross is in the lead in fundraising for South Georgia with over $16,000 raised. A Tifton resident for 22 years, Cross has served on the boards of the American Red Cross, the Tifton Arts Council, the Tifton Museum of Arts and Heritage, and the Downtown Development Authority. He is a founding member of Veritas Laboratories, a clinical laboratory located in Tifton and is the former CEO of Affinity Health Group. He is dancing with certified personal trainer Angela Stoecker.

Tifton’s J.J. Jackson, owner of Dance King JJ Productions of Tifton, will be a judge in the event, along with the reigning Miss Georgia, Carly Mathis of Leesburg and Valdosta’s Jeani Synyard. Hosts of the show are WALB TV’s Karla Heath-Sands and Ben Roberts.

“We anticipate a fun, glitzy, sparkly event for an important cause,” said Dan Phillips, regional development director of the Alzheimer’s Association. The South Georgia Region represents 35 counties surrounding Tift.

“Each year we have continued success because of the visible leaders in the community who dedicate their time and resources to participate in such a worthy cause,” Phillips said.

The program has two judging categories: the Judges' Selection -- determined at the event by the judge's scoring -- and the People's Choice -- determined by the number of votes/dollars raised by each couple through pre-voting and voting during the event.

Shroyer’s professional partner is Hannah Moore, co-owner of MotionDance Studio in Valdosta. In addition to Cross and Stoecker, Tifton dancers are: attorney Sandy Sims and personal trainer Gail Barnard; Charleston Carter, court administrator of the Tifton Judicial Circuit, who is from Adel and lives in Tifton, dancing with Serena Garcia of Atlanta; and Tenneson Nissan co-owner Katie Tenneson with Dr. Joe Lewis, under the direction of Michelle Oakes of Albany.

Albany area dancers are veterinarian Dr. Haley Hydrick Clark of Leesburg with Ashley Helton, Paige Harrell of DOCO Credit Union with Steven Cantrell, Emily Plummer of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital Center with Tony Mangiapane, and April Reardon with Gary Fowler.
