Horne named to MaxPreps freshman squad

TIFTON — Chalk up one more for the Tift County boys basketball team. Another list of honors was released this week and not surprisingly, a local player was honored.

Preston Horne was the latest to pick up an award, being named to the CBS MaxPreps Freshman All-American team as an honorable mention selection. Twenty-five players were named total.

Horne scored 359 points in 31 games with the Devils for an average of 11.6. He had a game high of 28 points at Lowndes and scored 24 against Osceola (Fla.). Tift went 29-3 overall and won the state championship. Horne had 9 in the final against Wheeler.

The only other Georgia player named was James Walker Jr. of Jonesboro High. He was a first team pick.
