Panthers outlast Warriors, 2-1

TIFTON — The Tiftarea Academy Panthers provided a little more separation in the Region 3-AAA race Wednesday evening. Fresh off a 2-1 win Monday, they added another one, this a 2-1 win over the Brookwood School Warriors.

It was a pitcher's duel most of the night, with Bo Vickers and Taylor Folsom outpacing Brookwood in the end. Vickers pitched six strong innings for the win, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 9. Folsom pitched the 7th to record the save. He struck out 2 and allowed 1 walk.

Brookwood would get the scoring started in the 1st with a walk and a double down the right field line for a 1-0 lead. They would not threaten again until the 5th when they runners on first and third with only one out. That threat was soon extinguished with a 4-6-3 double play by Thomas Spurlin, Cade Marlowe and Ethan Bryant.

The Warriors would keep the Panther offense at bay much of the evening. That is, until the bottom of the 6th with one out and no one on base.

Rob Flick hit a line drive into right for a single. Marlowe would follow him with a towering shot about the lights and over the right-centerfield fence for a 2-run homer, giving them a 2-1 lead and one they would not relinquish.

Spurlin also had a hit earlier in the game.

The Panthers are scheduled to play Valwood at Hahira tonight at 6:30.
