Christine Hammock Smith

TIFTON — Christine Hammock Smith, 93, of Tifton, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Cypress Pond Assisted Living in Tifton. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with Greg Sheppard officiating. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. at Riverview Memorial Gardens in Valdosta.

Johnny Dunn, Dwight Dunn, Wayne Warren, Lester Potts, Malcolm Brantley, Reece Akiens and James Barrentine will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 22, 1921 in Scott to the late John S. and Ennie Bell Brantley Hammock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Smith; three sisters, Carrie Avery, Edith Brantley and Mary Knudsen; and two brothers, Herman Hammock and Everett Hammock. She was a homemaker and a former resident of Ellenton, Fla. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Tifton. Mrs. Smith had been a very active member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Due to the fact that her husband was a surviving POW and a patient at the Veterans Hospital in Dublin, she spent many hours at the hospital volunteering and helping in any way needed.

She is survived by a sister, Gwynett Dunn of Tifton; two grandchildren, Rene Humphries and Tony Barlow; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Peitchman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Maple Court and Cypress Pond for her excellent care.

Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God, 1800 N. Central Ave., Tifton, GA 31794, or to the donor’s charity of choice.
