TIFTON — The pouring rains and threat of worse weather claimed a second local victim Friday night. The Tiftarea Academy Panthers cancelled their home scrimmage against the Valwood Valiants.
As the Panthers start their regular season next Friday night against Terrell Academy, the game will not be made up, according to athletic director Mike Patrick.
Tiftarea was hopeful of getting in the game. Valwood was, too. The teams did get in a few plays as the scrimmage was started early to get in as much as possible.
"[Valwood] literally got off the bus and played a little," said Patrick.
However, the game was soon delayed as both teams headed back to the locker rooms and fans headed for shelter or back to their cars. After a wait of about 40 minutes, head coach Ryan Branch walked the field with Valwood's Ashley Henderson, following which the decision was made not to play.
