Waite honored as city employee of the month

TIFTON — Tifton police officer Jason Waite was recognized as Employee of the Month for February at Monday evening’s City Council meeting.

He was praised by Police Chief Buddy Dowdy for his quick actions in recently saving a man’s life.

“Jason has been with us a little over two years. He is a trained paramedic,” said Dowdy. “A couple of weeks ago or maybe a month ago, he received a call to an aggravated assault. When he got there, he found that the victim’s throat had been cut.”

He said with Waite being a paramedic, he assisted in arresting the offender and immediately treated the victim. He added if it hadn’t been for what Waite did, the victim would have died.

“So, he actually saved this guy’s life,” Dowdy said.

When presenting a framed certificate to Waite, Vice Mayor Johnny Terrell (in Mayor Jamie Cater’s absence due to illness) shook his hand and said, “Thank you, sir. [We’re] glad to have you.”
