Rebels, Lady Rebels to host state doubleheader

ASHBURN — The Turner County Rebels advanced to the state Class A public school quarterfinals with a 74-54 win over Claxton Tuesday night.

Nate Martin led the way with 22 points. Antonio Graddic added 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Malik Brown contributed 10.

With the Lady Rebels of Turner having advanced to the state quarterfinals Monday with a win over Treutlen, the two Turner teams will play a doubleheader at 6 p.m. today in Ashburn.

The Lady Rebels will take on the Lady Eagles of Mitchell County, while the Rebels will face the Portal High Panthers for the third time this season.

On Dec. 20, the Rebels defeated Portal, 75-54, at home in Ashburn. The Panthers returned the favor by winning 75-74 over Turner at home Jan. 18.

The Turner-Portal winner will face the Hawkinsville-Randolph-Clay winner at 4:45 p.m. Saturday at Savannah State University in the state semifinals.

On the girls’ side, the Turner-Mitchell winner will take on the Wilkinson County-Greenville at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. That state semif\inal game will also be at Savannah State.
