Season ends for Tift girls, Lady Rebels advance

TIFTON — The Tift County Lady Devils ended their season Monday night when they were defeated in the second round of the state tournament at Marietta, 56-47, according to coach Julie Conner.

Marietta will next play at Lowndes Wednesday. The Vikettes were reported to be a 78-77 overtime winner over Hillgrove.

Alexis Johnson led the Lady Devils with 14 points and Audrey McElhaney had 12.

Tift upset the No. 5-ranked Westlake in the first round.

The area did see one girls team advance to the quarterfinals. In Class A, the Turner County Lady Rebels upended the Treutlen Lady Vikings, 61-29. Turner hosts the winner of Mitchell County and Marion County, scheduled to be Wednesday.

In other results, Brunswick was defeated by McEachern, Pelham won over Taylor County  and Wilkinson County was a winner over Clinch.
