Lady Panthers 3rd in region

TIFTON — Led by their five seniors, the Tiftarea Academy Lady Panthers rebounded for a 50-37 win Saturday over Brookwood at the Region 3-AAA tournament held at Darton College.

The win came a night after a tough two-point loss to Southland Academy, which put them in the consolation game.

Senior Ali Rippy started the scoring for Tiftarea and finished with 12 points. The foul line caused the team problems Friday, but that was corrected Saturday. Rippy went 6-7 and sophomore Erin Register was 6-6 from the stripe.

Register had 10 points against Brookwood, with Caitlyn Albritton scoring 7 and Macy Strenth and Jarrett McWhorter each adding 6. Neeli Fortson had three steals and three assists.

The Lady Panthers finished in third position in the tourney and will begin their first round of state at Stratford Academy Wednesday at 5:30 against Pinewood Academy.

Tiftarea’s state tournament games will be previewed in Wednesday’s edition.
