Gunshot wound still a mystery; help requested by officers

TIFTON —

Local investigators are seeking help after a gunshot victim went into a local store Monday morning asking for help.

At approximately 10:41 a.m. Monday officers from the Tifton Police Department were dispatched, along with Tift County EMS and deputies from the Tift County Sheriff's Office, to the SpeeGo convenience store on Whiddon Mill Road. A 26-year-old male had come in asking for help, saying he had been shot.

When officers questioned the young man, he said he had been shot in the side during an incident on a dirt road off of Carpenter Road. He later changed his story, saying it happened near Omega.

The man has been uncooperative with officers, and has recounted multiple versions of what actually happened to him. Investigators have withheld the man's name, and the investigation is ongoing.

The victim is being treated at a medical facility, according to reports from law enforcement.

Anyone with information on this incident should contact investigators Adam Tanner or Matt Ruberson at the Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at 388-6021.

To contact editor Angye Morrison, call 382-4321.
