Samantha Brown, 48, of Tifton died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Frank and Solomon Nixon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. You may sign the online guestbook at www.nixonfh.net.

Leola Clements Bruce, 89, of Roswell, formerly of Tifton, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Gardens of Roswell Assisted Living in Roswell. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later. Among her survivors is her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Hilda Bruce of Tifton and one daughter and son-in-law, Cissy and Marv Hoeflinger of Alpharetta. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Phillips Bryan, of Lenox passed away Monday, April 1, 2013 at Medical Center of Georgia in Macon. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Boone Funeral Home (www.boonefunerals.com).

James D. Philpot Sr., 77, of Adel, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Boone Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Futch Family Cemetery. Mr. Philpot is survived by his wife, Leta Faye Futch Philpot of Adel; three sons and daughters-in-law, Donnie and Sonya Philpot of Adel, Dr. Tommy Philpot of Atlanta and Troy and Karen Philpot of Adel. The Philpot Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.boonefunerals.com. Boone Funeral Home is serving the Philpot Family.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
