Rants & Raves - February 18

With Tifton being the Reading Capital of the World and so many like to read, including myself. Instead of our local officials trying to get new grocery stores, yogurt shops, fabric stores, restaurants, etc., which is fine. Why not try to get us a book store such as Barnes and Nobles, Books A Million or other quality book store? I think Tifton would support one. I know I would.
I disagree vehemently with the recent ranter who believes Tift County should spend money on a new BOE office. The condition or age of an office building does nothing to enhance educational opportunities for students. If there is money for new office buildings, divert it instead to improving instruction. Schools are judged by how well students learn, not how good central offices look!
Great work by the author on the recent article on Coach Dye of Ashburn. However, I'm disappointed that The Tifton Gazette chose to "sit" on the article for a year before publishing it. There is not a sufficient explanation to justify postponing such an article for a year. Good stories deserve newspaper space all year round.
If anyone saw someone carrying off my AC unit and the copper wiring to my trailer last week please report it to the police. I really thought I bought a house in a safe area.
If a cross walk is not available soon in front of the hospital and the employee parking lot, someone is going to be killed! Cars speed down that road like a NASCAR race track. And if you bother to treck way down to the other crosswalk, no one even stops. It's a daily hazard for those just trying to get to the hospital.
I never tried marijuana but probably would if it weren't illegal. From what I read it's not as debilitating as alcohol which is obviously legal. The state could make a tidy tax profit by legalizing the stuff. They could also put the illegal dealers out of business which is what they have been trying to do for years at great cost and without any success.
