The sun came out Saturday in time for many locals to come out and enjoy the annual Arts in Black Festival, which was held at the Tift County High School gym. Normally the festival is held at Fulwood Park, but due to rain earlier and the potential of more rain, the event was moved to the gym.
Although there was a new venue this year, attendees experienced the same fun and entertainment. Inside the gym, several performers took the floor, including An Ko Fa Drum & Dance, Tift County High Jazz Band, My Ladies, Faith Lagon with Uptown Dance, Ziah Jordan, Christian Jones, Dametria McIntyre and others. The host was comedian Michael Prince.
Also stationed inside the gym were a clown making balloon animals and hats, face painting and vendors. Outside the gym were food vendors, the barrel train ride and a bouncy castle.
The festival continues today with a poetry competition at 3 p.m. at the Tifton Welcome Station, featuring special guests Poetic Magic. These poets share their experiences, insights and discoveries through spoken-word poetry.
