Flavis L. “Tate” Griffis

OMEGA — Flavis L. “Tate” Griffis, 81, of Omega, died Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at Golden Living Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Joe Crumley officiating. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service.

Active pallbearers are Jackie Crumley, Jerry Crumley, Tim Butler, Terry Butler, J.C. McKinney and Eddie Hayes. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Sumner, Jimmy Crumley, Gary Crumley, Lee Ball Jr., Tommy Lawhorn, John Overman and Danny Harrell.

 Mr. Griffis was born Dec. 25, 1932 in Colquitt County to the late Lester and Lillian Cox Griffis. He was also preceded in death by a son, Craig Griffis who died in 1983. Mr. Griffis was a retired mill foreman for Arnett’s Milling Company. He was a member of Union Grove Church of God in Eldorado. Mr. Griffis loved singing, working in his yard and eating catfish. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed being with people.

Mr. Griffis is survived by his wife who he married Dec. 8, 1950, Billie Ruth Butler Griffis of Omega; one son, Ricky Griffis of Omega; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Jo and Clayton Kelley of Moultrie and Mildred Gregory of Tifton; one granddaughter and her husband, Lori and Slade Fountain of Tifton and two great grandchildren, Jake Fountain and Rae Fountain.
