Rants & Raves - March 25

When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s, my mother did not work. In fact, I can't remember the mothers of any of my friends working. Generally, one working spouse could maintain their family in the middle class. Today it usually takes both spouses working, often paycheck to paycheck, to maintain the family in the middle class. What happened? There is a great disparity in wealth between the middle class and the wealthy.
The columnist Ben Carson is just another conspiracy theorist in the vein of Beck and Limbaugh. They would have us believe that government has some sort of secret plot to control the people and take away individual freedoms but come up short in providing any specific examples. Our governmental leaders can't agree on the time of day let alone come up with some nefarious plot aimed solely at controlling our lives.
Mildew has taken over some of the houses at Mill Creek Cove. No signs of life behind the green exterior, window shades down, no doormats, welcome signs, flower pots. Garage doors open just long enough for the habitants to slip in. Maybe the fungus took over the bodies of my neighbors, like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”
Tift County needs to look at doing away with senior citizens paying school tax. Other counties have done it so why can't we? As with most seniors, I haven’t had kids in school in many years but I’m still paying to support the schools. The school tax portion of my property taxes is more than half of the total. Maybe state legislators should pass a law that all Georgia counties do away with it for seniors. Thanks.
It's bad enough when strangers knock on your door wanting to push their religion but now the state house would let teachers do it in the classroom. I find proselytizing to be offensive. It presumes that you don't have sense enough to make up your own mind about religion and my personal opinions on the subject are my own business that I don't care to share with somebody else that I might not even know.
