Jerry Byron Corbitt

SMILEY, Texas — Jerry Byron Corbitt, 71, of Smiley, Texas passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Antioch Baptist Church in Omega with the Rev. Danny Smith and Steve Meders officiating. Burial will follow at Omega Cemetery. Terry Martin, Ben Colmery IV, Keith Armiger, Lee Hembry, Jesse Colin Young and Steve Meders will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Baker Funeral Home in Moultrie for family and close friends.

Mr. Corbitt was born Jan. 7, 1943 in Moultrie to Mary Hall Corbitt and Colonel Byron Corbitt, Master Sergeant, USAF retired, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Jess and Candice Corbitt and Tom and Florence Hall; aunts, Bessie Hall and Annie Martin; uncles, Cecil T. Hall, JB Martin and Felton Meders.

Survivors include his “Darlin’ Dear” Barb Colmery of Smiley, Texas; her son, Ben and wife Leslie Colmery IV and daughter, Sylvie, of Silver Spring, Md.; Mr. Corbitt’s daughter, Jessica L. Corbitt of Inverness, Calif. and her husband, Brian Evans; his granddaughter, Bianca Zogbi; his sister, Janet A. Pokorny of Havre de Grace, Md. and her husband, Arthur; his niece, Heather C. Armiger of Aberdeen, Md. and her husband, Keith; his great-niece, Laurel; his aunts, Rubye Meders of Omega and Patty Hall of Athens, their families and many additional cousins and extended family members; and his much loved quarter horse “Ace.”

Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
