Virginia Florence Baker


Virginia Florence Baker, 80, formerly of Tifton, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at home in Flowery Branch following a lengthy illness. A memorial service for Ms. Baker will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church near Lenox with Pastor John Hughes officiating.
Virginia was born in Cook County Oct. 19, 1933 to the late Benjamin Jackson (B.J.) Baker and Mable Jones Baker. She was the granddaughter of Tillman N. and Rachel (Cowart) Jones and Edwin J. and Ocia (Lott) Baker. She graduated from Cook High School in 1951 and retired as executive director of the Georgia Tobacco Commission in 2006 after 37 years of service. Ms. Baker is preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers, Benjamin J. Baker Jr., James E. Baker Sr., John W. Baker and Robert L. Baker.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, GA, 770-219-8099.
