The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a traffic crash that involved a 60-year-old man who was struck by a train in Sparks Friday afternoon.
Sgt. J.C. Roberts with GSP told The Tifton Gazette Saturday that the crash occurred at 3:30 p.m. Friday on Railroad Street when the victim was traveling in a city-owned Ford pickup truck and failed to yield to the train.
The train hit the truck on the driver’s side, spun it around and ejected the driver, Roberts said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
There were no other people involved in the accident, Roberts said. The victim’s name is not available pending notification of next of kin
Roberts said the victim had a Tifton address but had moved to Sparks.
