Death Notices for January 7

Kazie Black-Jackson, 36, of Atlanta (formerly of Tift County) died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at Dekalb Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.  A repast will be held at Springfield Church dining hall. She is survived by her parents, Royce and Martha Black; sister, Kimyada Black; and brother, Kaymaghi (JaWan) Jones Black. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary LLC of Tifton.

Jessie Mills, 67, of Sparks died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Southview Mortuary Inc.

Lucille S. Gaskins, 81, of Adel died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Adel Church of God. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Gaskins is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Carter, Patti Cox and Lyn Martin, all of Adel. Mable Jackson Connell, 80, of Tifton died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Among her survivors is her husband, Bert Connell of Tifton; one son, Elbert Gregory Connell of Tifton; one daughter, April Dawn Morgan of Cairo; and one sister, Betty Ray of Tifton. Condolences may be sent to the family at the online guest registry at www.bowen-donaldson.com. Services for the Connell family are under the care and direction of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

Leroy "Chukalug" Jones, 58, of Tifton died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at  his residence. Funeral services will be held today at Southview Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. A repast will conclude at the community center. He is survived by his children, Tasha Stephens, Latoya Jones, Lecornus Jones, Erica Jones and Eric Jones. Professional care and services are entrusted to Southview Mortuary Inc.

Funeral services for Mary A. Trimble, 89, of Cleveland, Ohio, formerly of Omega will be held at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Taylor Family Funeral Service with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Taylor Family Funeral Service.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
