Harold E. Beard

TIFTON — Harold Eugene Beard, 76, of Tifton, died Friday, April 12, 2013, at Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, in the chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Larry Layfield and Dr. Fred M. Evers officiating.  Burial will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors.  

Cooper Browning, Tommy Ray, Hollis Flanders, Jack Connell, Neil Clements and Lamar Jackson will serve as pallbearers.  The Senior Adult Sunday School Department of Northside Baptist Church and the Georgia Power Ambassadors will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Born May 24, 1936, in Turner County to Charlie Clifford Beard and Mae Carter Beard, both deceased, Mr. Beard was also preceded in death by one brother, Lowell Beard, who died in 2009.

Mr. Beard was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He was a senior right-of-way agent when he retired from Georgia Power Company where he worked for 48 years.  He had been a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton since 1970.  Mr. Beard was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Tifton Lodge #47, for 50 years.  He also was a member of Tiftarea Daylight Lodge #745, York Rite Bodies, Kych Knight York Cross of Honor and Hasan Shrine for 50 years.  In addition, Mr. Beard was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, received Allied Masonic Degrees, and was a member of Red Cross of Constantine, Wiregrass York Rite College and Knight Masons.  

Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, to whom he was married 49 years, Audrey Jones Beard, of Tifton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karla and Howard DuVall, Leigh and Dr. Jay Phillips, and Gloria Beard, all of Tifton; four grandchildren, Nathan DuVall, Michael DuVall, Hayden Phillips and Reid Phillips; one brother and one sister-in-law, Bobby and Pat Beard of McDonough; and one sister, Peggy Fowler of McDonough.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, Md. 21741.
