Locals do well at Blue Devil Invitational

TIFTON — Competing against 10 other boys teams and 11 girls teams, the Tift County Blue Devils track teams had an impressive showing the Blue Devil Invitational Saturday.

The Lady Devils finished second to Valdosta and the boys trailed only Camden County and Westover.

The Devils had a trio of first place finishes in events, R.J. Merriweather taking first in the high jump, D.D. Walker won the 400-meter dash and also a win by the 4x400 relay team. That was also the amount of Lady Devils who topped their events. High jump went to Dail Adaway, Katie Utley won the pole vault and Staceyanna Murrell was 1st in the shot put.

In high jump Quay Duggins finished third and Danny Patterson was 6th. Other top eight finishes in events were by Walker in long jump (8th) and Dalton Ellis (4th) and Donovan Smith (8th) in pole vault. In the shot put J.T. Graden was 3rd, Jalen Johnson was 4th and Austin Mangelsdorf was 6th. Patterson was 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles and 4th in the 110-meter hurdles and Jamarion Billington was 8th in the 100-meter dash and 200 meters. In the 3200-meter run, Josh Curry was 6th, Josh Ajero was 5th in the 400 meters and Isiah Fullmore was 6th in the 800 meters.

Other than the top finish in the 4x400, the 4x100 team was 2nd, as was the 4x800 relay squad.

For the girls, the long jump saw Abby Bergeron finish 7th and Aquilla Hayes was 8th. Hayes was also 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles and 2nd in the 400-meter dash. Quasha Fergerson was 7th in the shot put and Karian Tolbert (2nd) and Dayvia Brooks (7th) placed in the 100-meter hurdles.

In the 3200 run, Sarah Willis finished 4th and Chloe Hoover was 8th. Taylor Burgess was 7th in the mile run, Katelyn Cooper was 7th in the 400 and a pair of Lady Devils finished side-by-side in the triple jump: Tolbert was 6th and Chasity Butts was 7th. Murrell added a 2nd place in discus and Willis was 6th in the 800-meter.

Team relay events featured the 4x100 team in 4th, the 4x400 (B) in 5th and the 4x400 in 8th.
