Rants & Raves - March 4

In response to raising taxes on tobacco: While we raise taxes on tobacco, let’s raise taxes on alcohol also.
Note to the city: It looks as if 20th Street won't be repaving itself.
"Son of God" was packed Friday night! "God is Alive"/"Noah" is next. To "critics" who sat behind us: We spent $52 for tickets. Next time, could you please not "snark" or "discuss" your negative, critical remarks throughout the movie? Please whisper if you must or better yet, stay home and wait until it comes out on DVD so you do not ruin it for others nearby. Next time if family is not with me I will most likely turn around and ask you nicely to please be quiet! To God be the Glory!
One evening, I was at Subway on 18th Street standing in line to pay my bill. I happened to have my Vietnam veteran's cap on and a gracious gentleman by the name of Ben Summers, a teacher at Tift County High School, offered to buy my meal in honor of my service in the military. I want to extend my thanks to him for his kindness.
The community does not need to take responsibility for the bad behavior at the Edwin McCain concert. The downtown theater management is responsible for managing the event.
About this welfare thing, I think the government should help people who are down and out and trying to do better but there should be some limits on the time involved. Unemployment benefits run for a limited time whether the recipient has found a job or not. And this idea of paying teenagers to have illegitimate babies is a bit much. Let their mamas take care of them and we might see a little more restraint.
