Abbott two times grand against Trojans

TIFTON — Slams were popular for Tift County Blue Devil sports Tuesday night. Boys basketball had several against Lovejoy, but the grandest two of the evening belonged to the Diamond Devils. Alex Abbott blasted two grand slams against the Lee County Trojans in a 16-1 win.

Coach Kyle Kirk said the second blast was part of a 10-run 4th inning. He said Abbott had a 3-0 count, but "since everyone was hitting so well" he decided to let him swing away. The result? "He put it on the hill."

Abbott went 3-3, he said, with a single and a hit by pitch in addition to the two home runs that gave him eight total RBI.

Even more positive, Kirk said that everyone reached base in the game. Blake Suggs went 2-3 with two runs batted in, Ryan Ross was 2-3 and Will Reinhardt had a double and drove in a run.

Reinhardt was the man on the mound, giving up a hit in four innings of work.

After hosting Elbert County last week, the 4-0 Devils will be visiting that part of the state this weekend. They play at Jefferson tomorrow, then have games against Winder-Barrow and Jefferson Saturday.

Their next home game is Monday against Veterans High of Kathleen. "A good test," said Kirk. Region opens March 7 at Camden County.
