Rants & Raves - February 25

I think most people that support conservative politics do so because they are poor students of history. They don't realize that liberals are the reason women can vote, the reason we have child labor laws that stopped 12-year-olds from working 16 hours a day in factories, the reason we have Social Security and Medicare, and the list goes on. Conservatives are people that fight to keep today what Liberals fought to change yesterday.
Can someone please say with a straight face, why CityNet was given to Plant Telephone and the city taxpayers are still having to pay for it?
The Confederate flag is and will always been a symbol of heritage in the South! Although most think that the war was about slavery they are dead wrong. The war was about state rights and government overreach! Both the south and the north owned slaves along with most of the world! Another news flash, both slaves and slave owners came in all colors! No one is proud of slavery, but it happened everywhere! So why is the south the only one blamed for it and why are African-Americans the only so-called victims? What about the Indian, Hispanic, Asian, Italian and white slaves? Oh, that is right they don't teach the truth!
I hear we have a mayor with railroad connections in Tifton: We need a noise ordinance for tooting trains, which are coming through our bedrooms every day after midnight! Citizens of Tifton, here you can unite for some peace and quiet at night. How about it?
If the Republicans wonder why they don't get more minority support, here's a hint about one thing: The minority doesn't care for unnecessary symbols that tend to promote offensive past institutions like slavery. Try a peach or a peanut instead. There are countless inoffensive possibilities rather than a Confederate flag.
