Shutout streak continues with double win over Ware

TIFTON — Six and zero were good numbers for the Tift County Blue Devils soccer teams Tuesday evening. Both teams remain undefeated and the boys maintain their shutout streak after identical 6-0 victories over the Ware County Gators.

Bobby Earls had huge praise for his defense in the boys game.

"Our defenders, Martin Penafiel, Andrew Meadows, Gilbert Hernandez, Haqq Tertuliano and Beau Lamb have done a great job of protecting our goalkeepers Greg Soto and Moises Chavez," he said. He added that the goalies have made big stops as well.

Damion Terrazas scored the first goal of the game, a header off a pass from midfielder James Ni. That came within the first five minutes. Less than 10 minutes later, it was Ni who scored unassisted.

Ni's big half would continue with another goal, this one with some help from Penafiel. Penafield was awarded a chance at a direct kick after a foul was called on the Gators. Ni arrived on the scene to redirect it with a header into the net.

Their last goal of the half belonged to Penafield, who scored on another direct kick attempt.

Javier Olguin had goal No. 5 off an assist by Gilbert Hernandez and the final score belonged to Jonathan Alvarado.

If Doug Head had been worried about finding a replacement for the Carlie Couch, he might have found one.

Abby Kay Choate had another hat trick against the Gators, her third in as many regular season games. Head said his other goals were from Taylor MacDonald, Emma Rose Williams and Blakeley Bergeron.

He said Taylor Nimmo was a "defensive wall" during the game.

The next Tift County games will be Friday at Lee County.

Six has been quite the unlucky number for Ware this week. They lost 6-1 Monday night to the Diamond Devils and were nearly held scoreless in that contest.
