Moultrie man charged with cruelty to children

MOULTRIE —

Stephen Ray Madden, 34, 108 2nd St. SE in Moultrie, was charged with cruelty to children on a Tift County warrant Saturday after he was involved in an altercation with Daniel Simpson at their residence in Moultrie.

Madden told police Simpson had hit him in the face, but other people at the scene said Madden had started the fight.

Madden had agreed to leave the residence when the officer was notified of the active Tift County warrant, police said.

As he was being led to the patrol car, Madden said he was going to kill himself, so the officer took him to Colquitt Regional Medical Center, where he was evaluated and released the next morning to go to jail.
