Powell named ProKicker.com Player of the Year

ASHLAND, Ky. — Ray Guy ProKicker.com has recently announced that Ike Powell of Tift County High has been named to its 2013 High School All-American Team and has been named the Player of the Year.

Powell was one of thousands of high school athletes who attended the Ray Guy/ProKicker.com Kicking Academy, which is held annually in over 50 cities across the nation. The Academy provides individual instruction to kicking, punting and long snapping prospects all across the nation.

“We would like every athlete to be honored for their individual performance as well as their initiative, dedication and accomplishment to improving their skills,” said Guy.

Athletes named to the High School All-American Team were individually evaluated and graded on facets of kicking, punting, and long snapping such as accuracy, timing, and distance.

Powell’s performances put him at the top of the list for college prospects according to prokicker.com, who listed him as the No. 2 long snapper nationally and the long snapping national champion.

“It’s all about credibility,” said Academy Director Rick Sang. “Athletes named to this exclusive list will appreciate their accomplishment much more by knowing that they have earned it.”

Powell committed to Auburn University on National Signing Day last Wednesday.

The complete listing of the All-American team can be found at prokickernews.com.
