Donald Griffin

TIFTON — Donald Griffin, 86, of Tifton died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Brushy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County with the Rev. George Paulk officiating.

Mr. Griffin was born June 14, 1927 in Berrien County to the late Homer T. and Mattie Purvis Griffin. He was a retired farmer who had recently moved to Tifton from Ocilla. He attended Westwood Baptist Church in Ambrose. He was an avid fan of Bluegrass and gospel music and enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. In the late 1970s, he owned a renowned field trial champion beagle named Wind Creek Been Late.

Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lorena Powers Griffin of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Jimmy Nolan of Fitzgerald and Joy and Dwight Wallace of Paragould, Ark.; two sons and daughters-in-law, the Rev. Gary Lee and Leighann Griffin of Omega and Keith and Peggy Griffin of Ocilla; a sister, Mildred Griner of Tifton; and nine grandchildren, Brittany Nolan, Miranda Simmons, Hannah and Christopher Phillips, Aldonna Griffin, Kelly Barrett, Ricky Barrett, Mindy and Gilbert Bordon, Jason Bennett and Lindsey Bennett, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
