Bruce Wayne Latham


Bruce Wayne Latham, 65, of Hawkinsville, formerly of Tifton, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brushy Creek Cemetery with Dr. Larry Daniel officiating.

Mr. Latham was born Aug. 30, 1948 in Ocilla. His parents were the late Wilbur Willis Latham and Janet (Marcy) Lisenby Latham. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great niece, Mackenzie Smith and a great nephew, Aiden Latham. He graduated from Tift County High School in 1966 and attended ABAC. Mr. Latham was a Lieutenant and Personal Officer in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed with the National Federation of Independent Business and earlier in his life worked with the United States Department of Agriculture. He also taught Dale Carnegie classes in Tifton. As a history buff, he enjoyed reading. He also enjoyed music, playing the guitar and trips to the beach. Mr. Latham was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Tifton.

Mr. Latham is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Darwyn Simmons of Dublin; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Lori Latham of Madison, Ala.; special friend, Shirley Hickman of Hawkinsville; nephews, Brandon Latham, Jeffrey Latham and Dr. Marcus and Jennifer Simmons; niece, Michelle Smith and her husband Charles; great nieces, Carson Simmons and Kendall Simmons and great nephews, Dalton Smith, Peyton Smith and Caleb Latham.

    LEOs and first responders honored at banquet

    A room full of local law enforcement and first responders were honored Thursday night by the Tifton Elks Lodge at their annual Public Safety Officer Appreciation and Awards Banquet for their service in the community.
    Prior to the awards being given out, Louise Spradley, who organized the banquet, welcomed everyone, and the invocation and pledge were led by the Tift County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard.
