ESMS finishes 7th at Lambert tournament

TIFTON — The Eighth Street Middle wrestlers had a successful weekend as they spent time up in north Georgia, participating in duals at Lambert High in Forsyth County.

Zac Martin's crew finished 7th in competition — their first ever at the state level — out of 32 teams. They were the only team south of Macon to participate.

In the morning session against East Hall Middle, Cody Waldschagler, Johnny Villafranca, Mason Sellars and Seth Spillers won via pin. Mason Strickland also had a 10-2 win. The team took a 46-41 victory.

Next up for them was Carrollton Middle, which was a 51-30 loss. They then went against Banks County Middle in a double elimination match. ESMS edged them, 41-36, with Villafranca, Sellars Brodie Cooper and Strickland pinning their opponents and Waldschagler getting a tech pin. Malcom Melton won, 7-2 and Reece Watson had a 6-2 win.

They finished out their day against Gilmer Middle. Gilmer won, 57-21, but Wesley Hodnett, Spillers and Ryan Dotson had pins and Bronson Lott won 7-3.

ESMS will participate in a conference tournament at Lowndes Saturday, which will finish their season.
