Another arrest made in gambling case

TIFTON — Following Monday's arrest of three more people in connection with the July 7 commercial gambling case, another arrest has been made.

According to a report from the Tift County Sheriff's Office, Charles Alton Benefield, 37, of Tifton was charged Wednesday with one count of commercial gambling.

The Tifton Gazette previously reported that Gloria Ann Knight, 40, of Omega was charged Monday with three counts of commercial gambling, along with Marie Webb Mobley, 58, of Tifton, who was charged with one count of commercial gambling, and Jessica Guadalupe Garcia, 22, of Tifton, who was charged with one count of commercial gambling.

Further details are forthcoming.

Several local convenience stores were raided by law enforcement July 7, which resulted in five arrests for felony counts of commercial gambling, as well as other related gambling charges.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reported that the GBI’s Commercial Gambling Unit, along with the Mid-South Narcotics Task Force, the TCSO and in cooperation with the Georgia Lottery Corporation, executed 18 search warrants in the Tift County area for violations of Georgia’s commercial gambling laws. Search warrants were served at 13 businesses, three residences, one storage facility and one office location.
