Future Fishermen to compete in Texas tournament

TIFTON — Members of the Tift County High Future Fishermen Club headed west Thursday. They were on their way to the Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Zavalla, Texas, to compete in Texas High School Open tournament.

Going west were Dylan Merritt, Taylor Woodall, Hunner Pritchett, Tripp McKee, Damion Jewell and Bryson Walker, accompanied by Coach Bruce Begue. They will be fishing against the best in the midwest and are hoping to pick up tips from some of the local pros.

Begue said he liked the team's chances in Texas. "Our group of young men have accomplished a lot this season, [and] not just fishing. We have done a lot of community-oriented projects with the aid of sponsors.

He said that Tift might be co-hosting a national event in September, along with Bainbridge High and the Chamber of Commerce. "Next year will be the program's fourth year and we look to expand our schedule of events," he said.
