Mason Wilson Thompson

Mason Wilson Thompson, 96, of Tifton, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Golden Living Center in Tifton.  He would have been 97 on Thursday. 
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chula with the Rev. Larry Layfield officiating.  Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors. 
Larry Jones, Donald Jones, Hulen Jones, Derrick Jones, Reid Jones and Scott Jones will serve as pallbearers.  Deacons of Mt. Zion Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. 
Mr. Thompson was born May 29, 1917 in Tuscaloosa County, Ala., to the late Charley Mason and Annie Lynn Thompson.   He was a farmer until 1964.  From 1964 to 1979, he owned Thompson Trucking Co.  He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chula where he was very active, serving as a deacon for more than 40 years and was the oldest living member.  Along with his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Clements Thompson, who passed away August 16, 2009; his son, Robert Thompson; and his grandson, Tate Thompson. 
Mr. Thompson is survived by his son and daughters-in-law, James Mason and Ellen Thompson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Jane Thompson of Tifton; his grandchildren, Todd and LeiAnn Thompson and Mandy and Jeff Folkerts;  and his great-grandson, Mason Scott Folkerts.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Southern Care Assisted Living and Golden Living Center for their kindness and care.
