Hazel Marie Greene Bridges

TIFTON — Hazel Marie Greene Bridges passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, at the age of 83. Hazel was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A memorial service, officiated by Dr. Fred Evers, will be held at Northside Baptist Church in Tifton Saturday, July 12, at 2 p.m.  The family will receive friends after the service. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of Walls Baptist Church, Bostic, N.C., Saturday, July 5, from 2 until 2:45 p.m., followed by the funeral service in the sanctuary at 3 p.m. and graveside service at Walls Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Toney will officiate the services.  McKinney-Landreth and Carroll Funeral Service, 4076 U.S. Highway 221-A, Cliffside, N.C. 28024, 828-657-6322, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bridges was born near Ellenboro, N.C., in Rutherford County Oct 24, 1930, the daughter of the late Guy Joseph and Zennie Mae Melton Greene. Mrs. Bridges moved from Rutherford County in 1960, and has been a long-time resident of Tifton.

She completed her education degree after her own children were in school, graduating from Valdosta State College (now University) in Valdosta in 1972 at the age of 42. She then taught third grade at Annie Belle Clark Elementary School in Tifton for 20 years. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tifton and a former member of Walls Baptist Church in Bostic, N.C.  

Mrs. Bridges had recently celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary with her surviving husband, Dr. William Worth Bridges Jr., also a native of Rutherford County. Other survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Elizabeth Bridges of Canton; her daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Ron Henning of Macon; grandchildren, Stephen, Will, and Laura Bridges, and Kristen and Caleb Henning; great-grandchildren Maci and Emory Bridges; her brother, Joseph Ray Greene and his wife, Mary Frances of Matthews, N.C.; her brother-in-law, Gerald Jones of Shelby, N.C. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patsy Charlene Bridges, two brothers, Norris Lee Greene and Chivious Alexander Greene, and her sister, Carrie Elizabeth “Lib” Greene Jones.

Flowers will be accepted.  However, memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to either the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund at 4605 Murray Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794, or to Walls Baptist Church at 749 Walls Church Road, Bostic, N.C. 28018.  

Friends may sign the online register at www.hartsmort.com. Harts Mortuary and Crematory, Cherry Street, has charge of arrangements.
